Places to Run

Training has given me the opportunity to explore Chicago’s outdoors on the lake front and in forest preserves. We have a plethora of distance paths and the scenery changes dramatically with different seasons.

The book Chicago Running Guide by Brenda Barrera (2000: Human Kinetics) has helped me find some of these great paths. I can’t wait to try some more out when the weather gets a little warmer. I also just picked up 60 hikes within 60 miles: Chicago by Ted Villaire, but haven’t been able to venture out to these trails yet.

To find a place to run from this blog, use either the tag cloud or the category drop down in the right sidebar.

To use the tag cloud, click on a tag that fits your interest. For example: if you are interested in running on a paved trail, click on paved trail. Distances are divided up in the increments of 0-5, 6-10 and 11+ miles as this is how I divide up my training. (I have not yet posted a 0-5 miler.)

Once you click on a tag, you see a list of entries with that tag. If you click on the tag for 6-10 miles, you see a list of posts describing places to run in the 6-10 mile range. Over time, some trails may have more than one entry–but this should reflect changes in the run. Click on the post name to read the entry.
